  • Uganda is the largest growing economy in the East Africa Region.
  • 97% of Ugandas exports in Africa are to countries in the EAC and COMESA regions. Uganda has seen an increase of 20% in the total imports in recent years.
  • The main traditional cash crops of Uganda include Coffee, Tea, Cotton & Tabaco. Ugandas non-food imports consist of tallow and machinery.
  • The highest food imports consist of wheat, rice, barley, sugar, maize and milk.
  • Food and drink is a key sector in Uganda’s economy with agriculture accounting for 21% of the GDP, responsible for about 46% of total export earnings and employing over 65% of the population.
  • A good climate, favourable arable land and an abundance of water bodies means that Uganda has the potential to become the bread basket of East and Central Africa.
